Wellness visits
Preventative medicine is important when our pets are young, but as our pets age, and become prone to certain disease processes, annual exams and blood work becomes even more important. Annual exams and simple blood work to check liver and kidney values, along with thyroid function have the potential to alert us to early changes that may give us important information about your pet’s health. Beginning exams and annual blood work when your pet is young and healthy gives us a baseline to compare to as your pet ages. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
Routine Vaccinations
At Lance Animal Hospital, we believe that one of the most important aspects of caring for your pet’s health is vaccinating him or her against possible diseases. There are a variety of diseases which affect our pets, and other animals, so proper vaccination is vital to protecting them from many types of illnesses.
It is important to consult with us about the unique risks of living in our region. We will be happy to discuss the benefits of protecting your pet with vaccinations, as well as, provide you with information on the required vaccinations for your pet.
It is our goal to provide the highest level of care for your pet, and vaccination is an integral part of your pets’ overall health. Please contact us today if you have any questions or concerns about your pets’ vaccination.
Routine bloodwork
Here at Lance Animal Hospital, we are proud to be able to offer blood work on our patients. Blood work is necessary to keep your pet healthy. By performing routine blood work, we are able to monitor any changes to your pets’ kidneys, liver, blood cell counts, and much more. We can learn a lot of information with a little bit of blood.
It is our goal to catch any problems early by doing regular blood work. When caught early, many problems are easier to diagnose and treat. It is hopeful that many pets will recover or, at least, have a better life with treatment. It is also helpful to have blood work to compare to, if your pet ever becomes ill.
Whenever your pet is not feeling well, you should be prepared to run blood work. There are a lot of diseases that all present the exact same way. With in-house blood work, we are able to diagnose your pet’s illness fairly quickly.
We also have a laboratory where we can send more complex testing. We may want to re-evaluate your pets’ results by sending it to the laboratory. We may also want to run thyroid tests, blood clotting factors, cultures, and much more. All of these tests need to be performed at an outside laboratory.
Ear Cytology
Here at Lance Animal Hospital, we are proud to run cytology exams. Cytology is the study of cells under a microscope.
We run cytology tests on many things. We do ear cytologies to figure out if your pets have bacterial or yeast infections. We look at diarrhea under the microscope to see if there is anything abnormal. We also run blood cytologies to look for any cell changes.
However, most cytology exams are done on lumps. Typically we use a needle to get a sample of the cells, which we then place on the microscope. This can be quite informative, telling us what types of cells (normal cells, fat cells, or cancerous cells) are there. This can be quite diagnostic. We also run cytology tests on fluids if your pets have fluid in the abdomen or chest.
We also routinely check cytologies of your pets’ lymph nodes if they are enlarged, which can be a sign of cancer. If we are unable to get enough information from the cytology, we may decide to send it out to the laboratory for more information.
If we still don’t get enough, we may have to send out a biopsy of the tissue.
If you have any questions about cytology or would like to have your pets’ lumps checked, don’t hesitate to contact us today.
Minor Sick Visits
It can be very stressful when your precious feline is not feeling well. Unfortunately, they are unable to tell us exactly what is wrong! That is why we are here for you.
Here at Lance Animal Hospital, our dedicated veterinarians and friendly staff are here for you and your cat. We will do everything that we can to find out what is wrong with your pet. We know how hard it can be on a pet when they visit the hospital so we will do everything in our power to make their visit go as smoothly as possible.
We have the best that veterinary medicine has to offer. We can perform lab work and x-rays onsite to try to determine what the problem is and what type of treatment protocol we need to take. We can hospitalize your pet to give him or her IV fluids. We have medications. No matter what we need to do, we will work with you to get your pet back to his or her normal self as soon as possible.
contact us today if your pet is not feeling well. We would be happy to take a look at him or her to decide what we need to do to make him or her start to feel better!
Euthanasia and quality of life service
Saying goodbye to your pet can be extremely difficult. The process can be emotionally and mentally draining. We don’t want you to be alone at the end stages of a pets’ life, and we promise to do everything we can to make it easier on you and your pet. Most of all, we promise to treat each case with compassionate and understanding care.
Knowing when the time is right can be a difficult choice. There are many factors that go into deciding to euthanize a pet, and it is a personal issue that differs from pet owner to pet owner. But every pet owner is inevitably faced with making that tough decision, and we want to be there alongside you to aid in any way we can.
If you have special requests, please let us know and we will be sure to accommodate them. Dealing with the end of a pets’ life is never easy, but we want to do whatever we can to make the process less difficult. Please contact us today to learn more about our hospice and euthanasia services.
